How lockdown made us appreciate timeless, ageless jewellery (that even your bloke can steal)
Its been a long old year and one of the things i’ve missed the most is wearing and enjoying my jewellery but i’m finding it weirdly difficult to get back into it. After a year of slumming it it suddenly feels slightly alien to be slinging on the bling.
I’ve always been a fan of the statement piece and at the beginning of lockdown it was kind of fun dressing for a Zoom party in my biggest, boldest ear ‘knockers’ (and PJ pants). The novelty soon wore off though. Especially when it came to Zoom parties!
I love the ceremony of picking out my jewellery at the start of the day. Each piece adding something new or complimentary to my look. Going totally jewellery free just felt weirdly naked at first! But in the interest of wearability (and with all that extra time on my hands) I found myself digging through all my old favourites. The pieces i had deemed a bit boring in the last decade were being seen at in a new light. Maybe it’s an age thing. Lets face it, i’ve been through the 90s trends once already! But my collection of chunky sterling silver bangles and chains, collected from trips to India and foraged for in Camden Market, suddenly felt fresh again. There’s also something slightly comforting about re-discovering old jewellery. Like getting back in touch with old friends ;)
During the re-stocking process for the new boutique (more on that later!) i found myself reverting back to a brand i’d been trying to get on board for a while and which feels even more relevant today; Tilly Sveaas.
The thing I love about her brand is that her jewellery transcends ages and genders but remains totally timeless. The more pieces you buy and wear together the more complimentary they are, which is what makes her brand so collectible. They also sit beautifully amongst my personal vintage collections which is slightly dangerous for my wallet! Whats more, you can get your other half in on the act and then ‘borrow’ to enhance your own collection. It’s win win!
At The Wearer we particularly love Tilly’s sterling silver pieces. At a time when comfort and wearability are super important these are the pieces that you can layer on and leave on*. I’ve been known to wear my silver T bar chain pretty much consistently for weeks and in my opinion, it just gets better with a bit of wear!
For the gold fans out there, we’ve got you covered. Solid gold is not purse friendly at the best of times and thanks to covid (thanks covid!!) this year prices of gold have soared making it even more difficult to get the quality needed for daily wear. Gold plated pieced tend to get ‘saved for best’ as they don’t last forever. Tilly has created a collection of heavy gold chains that really feel the business. The beautiful quality is heavily coated in 18ct to 23.5ct which really lasts if cared for and comes with a years guarantee. All the gold used in production is ethically and responsibly sourced which means you can feel confident that you’re buying into kindness and quality.
We LOVE being a Tilly Sveaas stockist and hope you love our Tilly Sveaas selection as much as we do. And watch this space! With such a positive response so far this is a collection that is no doubt going to grow and grow at The Wearer.
*good to mention that although silver is very versatile, some conditions can make it tarnish in different ways. Best to avoid chlorine and salt water. Silver can easily be cleaned up with a silver polish cloth though :)
