How to measure your ring size at home (if you can’t make it into The Wearer)
Finding the perfect ring size can be a tricky if you can'‘t get to your local jewellery shop to be measured by an expert*. We're here to help you measure your ring finger as accurately as possible at home. Whether you're buying a new piece for yourself or someone special, getting the size right is crucial for comfort and style. Here’s a step-by-step guide to ensure you have the best fit.
Step 1: Gather Your Materials
You’ll need:
A strip of paper or a piece of non-stretchy string
A ruler with millimeter measurements
A pen or marker
Step 2: Measure Your Finger
Wrap It Up: Wrap the strip of paper or string around the base of your finger. Make sure it’s snug but not too tight—comfortable, just like how you’d want the ring to fit.
Mark the Spot: Use the pen to mark where the paper or string overlaps.
Measure the Length: Lay the paper or string flat and measure the length up to the mark with your ruler. This measurement is the circumference of your finger.
Step 3: Find Your UK Ring Size
Use a UK ring size chart to convert your finger's circumference to the correct ring size. Here’s a quick reference:
44.2 mm = Size F
46.8 mm = Size H
48.7 mm = Size J
51.2 mm = Size L
53.8 mm = Size N
56.3 mm = Size P
58.9 mm = Size R
61.4 mm = Size T
64 mm = Size V
You can easily find comprehensive charts online to match your measurement as close a possible. Full disclosure…we find that charts can differ slightly by around 0.5.mm but its generally not enough to worry about.
Tips for Accurate Sizing
Measure at the Right Time: Finger size can change throughout the day due to temperature and activities. For the most accurate measurement, measure your finger at the end of the day when it’s at its largest.
Consider the Weather: Fingers tend to be smaller when cold and larger when warm. Measure your finger when it’s at a normal temperature—not too hot or cold.
Re-measure: For accuracy, measure your finger several times to ensure consistency.
Don’t Use Stretchy Materials: Elastic or stretchy materials can give you an inaccurate size. Stick with paper or string.
REMEMBER: Your ring needs to go on over your knuckle so make sure that it will fit!
Additional Tips for Comfort
Wide Bands: If you’re opting for a ring with a wide band, consider going up half a size for comfort.
Ring Dominance: The finger on your dominant hand is usually slightly larger. Keep this in mind if you’re right or left-handed.
With these simple steps, you'll be able to find your perfect UK ring size from the comfort of your home. Happy ring shopping, and may your new bling fit like a dream!
